After practicing law in the New Orleans for almost 20 years, Hurricane Katrina devastated my home city and sent me and my family to the West Coast. I obtained a Master of Laws from Lewis and Clark Law School and settled in southern California where I began teaching for several universities. It was while I was preparing to take the California bar exam, that I became aware of the outrageous prices that the lawyers in the area were charging for legal services. How, I wondered, were people able to pay these prices during these difficult times? A person shouldn’t have to lose their house or go without food simply to get good legal service! It was at that time that I decided NOT to take the California bar exam and to instead open LEGAL SERVICES OF THE DESERT, LLC.
